Rudy Giuliani built his public profile by taking on the New York Italian mafia, laying waste to a criminal organization that had gripped the city in an iron vice for decades. He went on to become mayor of that same city, guided them through the tragedy of 9/11, only to destroy every shred of goodwill and respect he’d gathered over a long life by throwing his lot in with the Trump administration.
A man who was once devoted to the pursuit of justice, Giuliani is now little more than a talking head for a cryptofascist government, peddling lies on behalf of his boss, a lifelong conman and washed up reality television star who managed to ride a wave of bigoted resentment into the White House.
History books which may have one reflected well on Giuliani will now remember him as nothing more than the accomplice of one of the worst crooks this country has ever spat up.
Dan Rather, the well-respected journalist who has made a habit of crafting insightful, passionate criticisms of the Trump administration, took to Twitter today to offer his take on the fall of Rudolph Giuliani.
Rather rightfully pointed out there is a deep irony to be found in the fact that Giuliani built a career out of prosecuting mob bosses and now sounds like a mob lawyer himself. The message was short and succinct, demonstrating the pathetic fact that Giuliani’s entire life story can now be truncated into one ignominious sentence.
There is a certain irony in the fact that Rudy Giuliani helped make a name for himself by prosecuting mob bosses and now sounds exactly like a mob lawyer.
