Comedian Michelle Wolf garnered heaps of scorn from the media after her spot on jokes about White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ congenital inability to tell the truth were misconstrued as an attack on Sanders’ physical appearance by the overly sensitive White House correspondents whom the press secretary misleads every day.
Since that headline-grabbing appearance hosting the White House Correspondents’ annual dinner, Wolfe has been purveying her political humor on her new Netflix series, The Break With Michelle Wolf.
So far nothing Wolfe has said on her show has attracted the same level of controversy as her jokes about Sanders at the press corps conclave, but her comments about Ivanka Trump last night just may do the trick.
Wolfe was giving her audience a tutorial on the proper way to insult Trump administration figures in public after a week of debate on civility in politics in the wake of the public shaming of Homeland Security Secretary Kristjen Nielsen and White House advisor and resident neo-Nazi Stephen Miller at DC eateries and the ousting of Sanders from a restaurant whose owner couldn’t bear the thought of serving her.
Wolfe was all in favor of keeping the pressure on Trump’s cronies, but cautioned them to use the proper techniques.
“You can’t just casually harass these people. You have to insult them specifically,” Wolf said. “‘You’re a c*#t’ doesn’t hurt them. It’s on their vision board.”
She used this potential insult to Ivanka Trump as an example:
“Ivanka, you’re like vaginal mesh,” Wolf said. “You were supposed to support women, but now you have blood all over you and you’re at the center of a dozen lawsuits.”
If you thought that might be a bit too obscure for those not familiar with the name of the implant used to treat pelvic organ prolapse that has come under fire recently for causing serious medical complications, Wolfe had an alternative line at the ready.
“Is your nickname herpes?” Wolf asked of Trump. “Because you’re not necessarily the most dangerous person in the administration but you’re very unpleasant, totally incurable and you always show up when we’re about to get f#@ked.”
Wolfe’s formula for insulting Trump officials is simple. Just tell the truth in a very funny way. Somehow, Wolfe’s way is funnier than most. Trump officials must be hoping that they don’t wind up in a restaurant seated at a table next to hers anytime soon.
