Trump just disgraced us with childish, rude comments in presser with South Korean President

- Mei 22, 2018

President Trump met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in today to discuss a smattering of issues with the press, most prominently the pending-but-might-not-even-happen summit between the United States and the dictatorial North Korean regime run by Kim Jong-un.

While the summit has been the most prominent fixture in Trump’s proposed foreign policy, he now admits that it might not even come together, or might have to be delayed.

At one point in the press conference, Trump’s behavior took a turn for the boorish that was surprising even by his nigh subterranean low standards. After rambling on for a while, and offering some tepid praise for his Seoul counterpart, Trump turned to President Moon’s interpreter and told him to translate his comments for Moon, something which — by very nature of being an interpreter — the man did not have to be told to do.

“Cause you know, he’s not hearing what we’re doing here,” Trump said, turning to the press with a smug look on his face. Trump then continued to talk over the Koreans, visibly making it more difficult for them to hear each other.

The Republican president also made a joke that Moon probably speaks English better than he himself or the others in the room, which wouldn’t be much of an achievement given that Trump’s mastery of his native tongue is tenuous at best.

Trump’s dismissive body language and overbearing behavior came across as not only unprofessional but outright disrespectful. Moon should be commended for his ability to deal with Trump’s crude behavior, maintaining a civil countenance throughout.

Unlike our leader, Moon clearly has the best interests of his country at heart and is willing to endure Trump to maintain the important South Korean-American alliance that has existed for decades. Trump may be working to destroy our international relationships, but luckily some world leaders are helping to mitigate his damage.
