Former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe — who was fired just a few days before his retirement, thus making him ineligible to collect his pension — is taking the fight directly to Trump’s door.
The Hill reports that McCabe intends to sue the administration for defamation and wrongful termination. Additionally, his lawyer stated that he may proceed to file even more charges in the coming days.
McCabe was removed from his position last month after an internal investigation concluded that he had made an “undisclosed disclosure” to the press and was not “forthcoming” when he spoke to federal investigators.
Once the inspector general delivered this report on McCabe, Trump’s lapdog Attorney General Jeff Sessions promptly fired the Deputy Director. Yesterday, the Inspector General issued a criminal referral to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Washington D.C. over McCabe.
McCabe, for his part, continues to deny the allegations, instead asserting that the entire affair is a transparent attempt to weaken the FBI and undermine the validity of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
While it’s as yet unclear what, if anything, McCabe actually did wrong, what is clear is that the Trump administration is waging all-out war on our law enforcement agencies. The Republican Party, which has long touted itself as the party of “law and order,” would rather destroy the FBI, betraying everything they claim to stand for in the process than allow their president to be investigated and held accountable for his actions.
The rank criminality and corruption at the heart of the GOP has been on full display for the world. There is no excuse for it and now it’s up to the American people to take action. These opportunists and crooks have to be voted out of office immediately if our republic is to survive.
