Yesterday, Trump sent shockwaves through the country when — invested with all the awesome and historical power of the United States Presidency — he took to Twitter to sexually harass and demean a sitting U.S. Senator.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) came under fire from Trump after calling Monday for President Trump to resign over the credible sexual misconduct allegations leveled by nineteen different women so far. He’s been accused of acts ranging from sexual harassment to a horrifying allegation that he raped a 13-year-old girl.
In response to her call, Trump tweeted out a message implying that Gillibrand had offered sexual favors in return for campaign contributions. He said she had visited his office “begging” and would do “anything” for campaign contributions. He tweeted:
Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Chuck Schumer and someone who would come to my office “begging” for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump. Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!

The Senator quickly responded with a defiant tweet:
You cannot silence me or the millions of women who have gotten off the sidelines to speak out about the unfitness and shame you have brought to the Oval Office. https://t.co/UbQZqubXZv

Today, Gillibrand appeared on NBC’S Today show to offer her thoughts on the president’s disgusting tweet. She said she did interpret Trump’s tweet as a sexual reference and implication that she was willing to trade sexual favors for campaign cash, and that many people interpreted it in the same way.
Gillibrand continued to say that it was a “sexist smear” intended to silence her. That said, she refused to be silenced and then once again called for Trump to resign immediately.

Now, more than ever, we need strong women leaders like Gillibrand to stand up to our sexual predator president and his regressive agenda. She is setting a strong example for the rest of the Democratic Party to follow. There is no excuse now, with the #MeToo movement in full swing, for not calling on Donald Trump to immediately resign.
Every Democrat must come out and add their voice to Gillibrand’s until the Republicans are forced to grow a collective spine and oust their party’s vile leader. Trump must go, and he must go now.
