It can be difficult to remember life before Donald Trump became President of the United States, especially for those of us forced to watch and report on his chaotic White House. But the world was quite a different place before his stunning victory or Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, even for many of the characters closest to him.
Sean Spicer, President Trump’s former Press Secretary, looks and acts the part of a Trump loyalist today. For 6 months, he went before the press everyday and defended the MAGA agenda, and he spent more time attacking the “swamp” and the Washington elite than just about everyone besides his boss.
Now, Spicer’s ready to tell all. He announced he’s penning a new book Monday, telling FOX News’ Sean Hannity, “I’ve decided that it is incumbent on me to set the record straight.”
“I looked back at the coverage of the campaign, the transition and the first six, seven months of this White House and realized that the stories that are being told are not an accurate representation of what President Trump went through to get the nomination, to transition to the White House and then his first six months in office,” he added.
Before he joined the administration, however, he was a card carrying member of the Republican establishment and the D.C. elite. He worked with another Trump administration alum, former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, at the Republican National Committee, and it was Priebus who pushed Trump to name Spicer his press secretary.
Spicer’s relationship with the President was visibly rocky from the beginning. Reports emerged during the transition the very image-conscious Trump didn’t like the way Spicer looked on TV. The president even reportedly yelled at him for his lack of fashion sense. The president’s opinion of his press secretary never really improved, and after six months he was gone.
The book will be titled, “The Briefing,” he announced, a nod to both his daily job briefing the press, and the brief amount of time he spent in that role. The tome will be published by Regnery Publishing, the self-proclaimed “leader in conservative books,” and it’s due out in July of 2018.
